The Asian Adoptee Film Festival is the first festival to exclusively showcase the artistry and accomplishments of filmmakers from our own Asian adoptee community. Film screenings and sneak previews of selected films written, produced or directed by Asian adoptee artists will be presented on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Honolulu Academy of Arts' Doris Duke Theatre. The Asian Adult Adoptee Gathering registration fee will include film festival admission and transportation.
KAHI invites not only Asian Adult Adoptee Gathering participants to attend the screenings, but also welcomes the public to the film festival, in hopes that through these unique works of art, viewers will gain insight into the unique experiences of our filmmakers and our adoptee community. The Doris Duke Theatre will manage public ticketing for this festival this autumn.
Film Selections
The general film submission deadline has passed, and the film festival selection committee is no longer accepting new entries. KAHI thanks all filmmakers and artists who submitted their work for consideration.
To be considered eligible for the film festival, films were required to address the topic of adoption or the experience of being adopted, and to have at least one adult Asian adoptee credited as a writer, producer or director.
The screening process for film selections is under way. Due to the number of entries received and the artistic merits of all of our received submissions, our selection committee faces a difficult task! Filmmakers can expect to be notified of their entries' status by mid-May. |
