Did you know that approximately 1 out of 10 Korean Americans is a Korean adoptee?

Since the Korean War, between 150,000 to 200,000 Korean infants, children and adolescents have been internationally adopted. Of these, more than half have been adopted to the United States. Today, with more than 1 million Korean Americans populating the United States, Korean adoptees represent roughly 10 percent -- or more -- of our ethnic grouping.

As the largest generation of overseas Korean adoptees reached adulthood in the 1980s and '90s, associations and member organizations began forming regionally across Europe and the United States, offering a range of unique services and programs -- tailored especially for Korean adoptees, by Korean adoptees. KAHI is the first such organization to be established in Hawai'i.

How You Can Help
As a volunteer-operated nonprofit organization, KAHI relies on the support and generosity of our members, sponsors and friends to make our programs possible.

We envision KAHI as a rich resource within the greater Korean-American, Asian-Pacific and Hawai'i communities. In addition to providing cultural education and resources to our members, we aim to use our experiences and perspectives to help inform others about the complexities of adoption, the importance of cultural identity, and about Korean adoptees' unique and integral role in Korean-American and island culture. We also seek to provide KAHI members with opportunities to contribute and participate in our communities in various ways.

You can help us maximize our potential.

Your tax-deductible donations can help us:

  • Obtain the necessary resources, materials and meeting spaces for our cultural education programs
  • Provide resource and reference materials for our members and all those we serve
  • Distribute information via our website, member communications, newsletters and through other outreach activities
  • Support and participate in community events
  • Strengthen connections with other adoptees and adoption-related organizations through conference participation and other networking opportunities
  • Host the Asian Adult Adoptee Gathering & Film Festival in Honolulu, from October 10 to 13, 2008
Additionally, your in-kind contributions of goods and resources can help enhance our programs in countless ways. Please consider supporting KAHI by donating or offering your services, talents or expertise if you can:
  • Provide access to cultural activities, arts and educational resources, or other learning opportunities
  • Offer access to or help supply us with multimedia and reference materials for our resource library
  • Contribute office supplies or equipment, meeting space or refreshments
